Today's Student Meeting: Expectations and Things to Take

- Staff / Student Expectations
The major focus today was  Expectations on Staff and Students who are part of these trips.

Students have been issued with a Letter from Mrs Simpson and Mr Brantley (the Board Chair), the focus of which is safety and clear definitions of responsibilities of staff and students taking part in the USA Tour. All parents and students are to read this carefully.

An important attachment to this letter is the Staff and Student Responsibilities document. Everyone present at the meeting has a copy of this. Please click on this link to read it. It is vital that all students and parents are aware of the expectations when it comes to student behaviour and the serious and expensive consequences of breaches of those expectations.

The final piece of paper is the Deed of Understanding, which is to be signed by both students and parents and returned by Thursday 2 March 2017. This is a condition of going on the Tour.

- What to Pack (and what not to pack)
Mrs MacDonald has prepared a list of what to take and what not to take. Click here to access.
One of the main things to stress here is the need to pack as lightly as possible, because we want to avoid falling foul of the luggage restrictions.

A couple of extra things to note:
- Good walking shoes are critical. We are on the move a lot and cover a lot of kms on foot!
- We will be expecting a respectable standard of dress at all times.
- In particular, the church service on Easter Sunday we will need knee length trousers/skirts/dresses and shoulders covered. For those who are unsure about what Sunday Best looks like, here's a photo of last time's group at Ebenezer Baptist.

Cash Passports
We talked about how these work. Students have been advised to organise these with their banks in the next few weeks, but also to get hold of some US currency as a back up.

And to finish a couple of reminders:

- Silent Auction and Quiz Night - Wednesday March 15
This will take place on Wednesday March 15 at the Cafe at SMC. Students have been tasked with asking around for goods and vouchers that people they know might wish to donate. Proceeds from this go towards the Tour Fund, which will be used to pay for full group expenses.
Thanks to those who have donated items so far. Next meeting we will be issuing students with tickets to sell.

- Bike Waiver forms - almost all in! Please return asap.

Not long now!
